Re: Yahoo! strikes deal with Facebook in bid to be the 'largest social network' in the world: "Did you read the 'Yahoo! updates' bit ? Users have 'two weeks to opt out' before anyone on your address book can see 'see any of 'your' activities across Yahoo! sites' ! and.. this is better than the Buzz rollout ?
Mark Rabe is living in cloud Yahoo cuckoo land. If your product / service / upgrade is any good then the option is opt-in ! not 2 weeks to opt-out. THAT protects users privacy and 'will avoid incurring users’ wrath '. Users hate not having the option to opt-in, no matter how good Yahoo! Pulse’s functionality actually is.
I can't believe Yahoo would repeat Googles error so soon after the event and announce it during an announcement about a facebook tie-in given the current Facebook privacy problems.
Or maybe Mark Rabe believes that any publicity is good publicity ? Have all the colomn inches really hurt Google, Microsoft, Facebook etc ? Maybe she just wants to get in on their free bad privacy advertising ploy?
Give it 2 weeks and everyone will be commenting on this..."

Re: Yahoo! strikes deal with Facebook in bid to be the 'largest social network' in the world: "As the new CEO tightens her grip on the Social Media market will Carol Bartz be the first or last to witness the Privacy problems encountered by Facebook and will this finally make social media sites tighten up their privacy rules in favour of the user and not the site owners."

New Facebook Privacy Settings Announced: What's Changed
New privacy rules have been required for a long-time on Facebook as so many young and impressionable youngsters are using Facebook daily just to tell their friends about what they are doing. Very few realise that someone out there is getting all this information and using it for reasons for good or evil. It is the duty of all such Social Media Sites to be aware of the need to provide their clients with as much protection as it takes to make sure they have a secure and enjoyable experience. It should not be about how many million users you have or how much advertising revenue you can generate but put people that join your site first and last. As without them you have nothing and with them you will grow and less problems will be evident on-line with privacy issues, or one day we will have a policed internet just like many states of the world and freedom of choice and speech will be gone for ever.
So clean up your site` s now before it is too late and put people before profit.

Google Is the New "CorporNation" - Half Company, Half Virtual Government
One of the most difficult areas of any stand for justice is that you have to know what you really stand for and how you will provide help and guidance to achieve that goal. In the case of Google it is good that they stand-up and now do the right thing - even and as with all corporate entities their aim maybe profit. Let us look at at history and we see that many nations were ruled by a tyrant but even though that tyrant wreaked chaos in there wake history still changed some for the betterment of society and others for the worsening of the way we live our lives. So l applaud Google being large enough to make a stand but do not agree with Goldman Sachs for wrecking Greece`s economy. The final overriding factor must be that it is the people any nation, leader or CorporNation that really matter and l realise that the end does not justify the means but if the means to an end is worthwhile as l believe this one is, then maybe Google like any corporate entity is not as bad as they are painted.

Star Google News Stories
Star Google News Stories: "Google News added a new feature that lets you star news stories. If you click on a star next to a Google News cluster, you'll add it to the Starred section and Google will notify you when it finds related articles.
'When you star a story in Google News, it's one way to let us know that you're interested in that subject. When there are significant updates, we will alert you by putting the headline in bold so you can get more information,' mentions Google News blog.
For some reason, Google doesn't add the starred news stories to Google Bookmarks and there's no option to star a news cluster after you open it. Another issue is that the Starred section only includes the most recent 20 starred stories.
I don't know if this is best way to use this feature, but you could star news stories to read them later. If you don't already use Instapaper or Read It Later, starring Google News clusters is a great way to save them for later.
"A brand new way to research your news articles using "Google News" as they will help and guide your preferences on articles that you are interested in following, thought this was an excellent addition to the Google stable. Visit the link and read more on the Google Operating System Blog.

Google Economist Explains Why You Won't Pay For Online News
Google Economist Explains Why You Won't Pay For Online News: "Overall newspaper circulation has been in decline since 1990, 'well before the Internet,' Hal Varian noted, while newspaper circulation crossed against the nation's population has been declining since 1960; and circulation per household has been dropping since -- wait for it -- 1945. You can't blame the Web for that."
This does not seem unusual in the world of the internet the article states but people have become less interested in the newspapers as they reported very little that was of interest to the general public, way back in the early 1990`s and it is only over the last few years people have become more aware of the world.
But my view of the period before this date and 1945 you can only look at the war years and the affect it had on the paper industry and l do understand that people see the internet and news on-line as more interactive with people in other parts of the world, but l do agree people will not pay for news on-line as people like me are building their own news networks.
